Title: Transforming Education for Global Competence: Utilizing Advanced Educational Technologies for Authentic, Immersive, and Intelligent Cross-Cultural Learning

Abstract: In this speech, we will explore how advanced educational technologies, such as virtual reality (VR), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and artificial intelligence (AI), are transforming education to foster global competence. These technologies create authentic and immersive learning experiences, enhancing students' engagement in cross-cultural learning, language acquisition, and intercultural competence development. We will examine how VR and UAV environments provide realistic and interactive cultural contexts, fostering intelligent learning experiences that support deeper cross-cultural understanding. Special attention will be given to the impact of real-time, AI-driven evaluation, translation, and feedback, which enhance cultural awareness, language proficiency, and communication skills in these immersive settings. Additionally, we will discuss research findings on technology-supported learning activities and tele-collaborative projects, highlighting their role in cultivating cultural sensitivity, adaptive thinking, and global perspectives. Beyond language and cultural learning, we will explore how these technologies enhance learners' sense of presence and perception of their learning experiences within technology-supported environments. The speech will conclude with insights into future trends in educational technology, challenges in implementation, and the evolving role of AI in further personalizing and enriching cross-cultural learning. By leveraging advanced educational technologies, we pave the way for a more interconnected, culturally aware, and globally competent education landscape.

Title:  Development of Political Culture: The Malaysian experience

Abstract: To comprehend how political culture develops in any society globally, it is embedded in its history.  To demonstrate the development process of a political culture we need both concept and empirical evidence. In this presentation I choose the Malaysian experience as a case study. Conceptually, political culture is about the power structure and governance of a society at each phase of its history: pre-colonial, colonial, post-colonial. In the context of Malaysia there are three phases in order to understand the evolution of political culture: first, pre-colonial based on feudalism and absolutism; second, colonialism during which a foreign colonial rule is imposed, in Malaysia by the British; and third, post-colonial when Malaysia was declared independent guided by democracy and rule of law, in the form of a constitution. The presentation narrates the making and the evolution of political culture in Malaysia with historical and contemporary examples.
